Our home ed year started with an intra city travel to the eastern region of the kingdom. Travel always change the outlook on life and helps bring fresh perspective to our homeschool, parenting and everyday life in general.
I have written a separate post on what should one do if you’re a homeschooling family travelling to the lovely eastern cities of Dammam, Dhahran and Khobar.
Here’s what we have done in the month of September Alhamdulillah.
Literacy: Stage 1 Oxford Songbirds series by Julia Donaldson
In the first week of September we can fluently read the 6 books in this series of stage 1. Alhamdulillah. When Lo stucks on a certain word, I ask her to chunk the word in syllables. That way she spells with sounds and is able to pronounce it correctly, Masha Allah. We now have phonemic awareness alhamdulillah.

Mathematics Unit Study: Number & Skip Counting , shapes & vertices
We now know numbers from 1-100 and also are going beyond them. We also covered skip counting by 2’s. This topic covers the regular counting with a speed and also helps in calculation. I also like that the multiples also help in tables learning.
Also got to do small numbers.

My eldest is a kinesthetic learner. It means she learns by hopping, running , moving in zig zaggy motions! It’s crazy making someone learn like that! Alhamdulillah.
Some geometry;

I also believe that learning happens best at play and not by sticking to desk all day for long hours. Homeschool is not a replica of school at home it simply is unschooling from traditional school methods.
The one-on-one connection is more listening, liberating and powerful for any homeschool. Thus the need of lots of games & play also takes it place, Alhamdulillah !

Art: Learning new painting techniques and Free style drawing
We tried this drawing journal for kids , it has prompts to let you draw with respect to it.

A few painting techniques that I introduced to Lo.

The weekly art home ed also recently started and we made origami butterfly and flower!

We also got the introduction of lego friends, much to my amazement Lo spent the entire weekend morning sorting this out.
We find that the hoopla around legos is not ingenuine. It sparks excitement, resorts STEM play, structures organisation and teaches calm and motor skills to tiny hands. Finally, the pretend play is very inviting.
Alhamdulillah, I am happy with my purchase and that she really enjoys it, masha Allah.

This is the month of rabi ul awwal and we did a small introduction of it with the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) , the splitting of the moon and the tree trunk crying events along with their crafts. This turned out as a loving and wholesome approach to our already Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) story sessions.

For the story and craft guides we used the activity resource from Allamah Education.
Excited for new learnings in October, insha Allah. How has been your September with learning?
